Again I have another 'unsere Umwelt' debate next week to prepare for. This week my debate will centre on the topic of our traffic problems; primarily on whether building new roads is the solution to all our problems or whether other solutions are more suitable. Here are my arguments.
Wie lösen wir das Verkehrsproblem?
_______________________________ Meinung 1: Der Verkehr auf unseren Straßen wird in der Zukunft weiter zunehmen. Deshalb mussen wir neue und bessere Straßen bauen. Ich habe Meinung 1 gewählt. Ich habe der Karte zugestimmt, weil ich der Meinung bin, dass unsere Mobilität von unseren Straßen abhängt. Ohne ein gutes Straßennetzwerk wären unsere Leben viel schwieriger. Stellen Sie sich vor, die alltägliche Pendelzeit würden noch länger werden, es gäbe mehr Verkehrunfälle und verkehrsbedingte Umweltverschmutzung würden weiter zunehmen. Die nächsten zehn Jahren sind entscheidend diese Probleme aufzuhören. Wir dürfen nicht mit dem Handeln warten. Je früher und schneller handeln wir, desto billiger und besser werden unsere Verkehrsprobleme gelöst werden. Neue Straßen müssen so bald wie möglich gebaut werden. Die Argumente: Die Wirtschaft: Sie müssen zugeben, dass das Straßennetzwerk sehr wichtig für die Wirtschaft ist. Leute und Unternehmen benutzen unsere Straßen jeden Tag rund um die Uhr. Ja, Ich stimme zu, dass es schöner wäre, wenn wir abhängiger von offentlichen Verkehrmittel sein würden. Aber heutzutage ist das leider unrealistisch. Das Auto ist nicht nur günstig sondern auch jetzt fast ein Modeartikel. Die Pendelzeit: Aus vielen verschiedenen Gründen brauchen wir dringend neue Straßen aber der wichtigste Grund ist, weil die durchschnittliche Fahrt zur und von der Arbeit mehr als zwei Stunden dauern kann. Das kann nicht akzeptiert werden. Lange Pendelzeiten führen zu stressbedingte Krankheiten und eine abgesenkte Produktivität. Das überlastet Straßennetzwerk: Wir müssen aber überlegen, dass nur fünf neue Autobahnen in den letzten 6 Jahren in Deutschland gebaut worden sind. Trotz dem Fakt, dass Verkehrsaufkommen um 30% gestiegen ist. Die mögliche Arbeitsplätze: Der Fakt, dass der Bau von neuen Straßen viele Arbeitsplätze schaffen kann, darf nicht ignoriert werden. Es wird sogar vorgeschlagen, dass mehr als 10 000 neue Arbeitsplätze geschafft werden könnten. Unsere Probleme von Verkehr und Arbeitslosigkeit könnten gleichzeitig gelöst werden. Der Bau von neuen Straßen ist die einfachste Lösung, die es gibt. Ja es ist zwar ein bisschen teuer aber es lohnt sich. Neue Straßen bringen eine Menge von zusatzlichen Vorteilen mit sich. Sie fördern Tourismus, sie erhohen Verkehrssicherheit und reduzieren, um nur einige Vorteile zu nennen.
In Syrien hat die
Terrormiliz "Islamischer Staat" offenbar die ersten Teile der umkämpften
Stadt Kobane eingenommen. Beobachter sprechen von massiven Straßen- und
Häuserkämpfen in den Randbezirken der Kleinstadt. Kobane ist die letzte Bastion
in einer ursprünglich von kurdischen Einheiten kontrollierten Enklave im Norden
Syriens. Die Stadt wird seit Tagen von islamistischen Kämpfern belagert.
Angesichts der bedrohlichen Lage macht sich UN-Generalsekretär Ban Ki Moon
große Sorgen um die verbliebenen Bewohner in Kobane. Ban appellierte an alle,
die die Mittel dazu hätten, sofort zum Schutz der Bevölkerung zu handeln.
In Syria
the terrorist militia ‘IslamistState’ has reportedly
captured the first parts of the contested city Kobane. Observers speak of
massive street and house-to-house battles in the outlying districts of the
market town. Kobane is the last bastion in an originally Kurdish controlled
enclave in the North of Syria. The town has been under siege by Islamist
fighters for days. Given the threatening situation, UN General Secretary Ban Ki
Moon worries for the remaining residents in Kobane. Ban urged all who had the
means to do so to act to protect the population.

sich eine Krankenschwester mit Ebola infiziert. Das bestätigte
Gesundheitsministerin Ana Mato in Madrid. Damit hat sich erstmals ein Mensch in
Europa mit der in Westafrika grassierenden Seuche angesteckt. Die
Krankenschwester hatte einen an Ebola erkrankten spanischen Priester betreut,
der vor zwei Wochen zur Behandlung aus Sierra Leone nach Madrid gebracht worden
war und dort wenige Tage später verstarb. Die Krankenschwester hatte seitdem
Urlaub. Nach Angaben von Medizinern fühlte sie sich erstmals am 30. September
krank. Sie sei in einem stabilen Zustand. Die spanischen Behörden setzten inzwischen
einen Notfallplan in Kraft, sagte Ministerin Mato. Vertreter des Krankenhauses
sagten, alle Kontaktpersonen der Krankenschwester stünden unter Beobachtung.
Bislang seien aber keine weiteren Ebola-Fälle bekannt.
In Spain a nurse
has been infected with Ebola. This was confirmed by the Health Minister

Europaparlament fortgesetzt. Dabei muss sich der Brite Jonathan Hill zum
zweiten Mal den Fragen der Abgeordneten stellen. Weitere Kandidaten sind der
Finne Jyrki Katainen und der Niederländer Frans Timmermanns. Das EU-Parlament
muss der Berufung der Kandidaten zustimmen. Bei der Anhörung am Montag konnte
der Ungar Tibor Navracsics nicht überzeugen. Die Abgeordneten lehnten ihn als
kommenden Kulturkommissar ab. Auch die Slowenin Alenka Bratusek geriet ins
Kreuzverhör. Sie musste sich gegen Korruptionsvorwürfe im Zusammenhang mit
ihrer Nominierung verteidigen.
In
Brussels the
hearing of the designated EU commissioners is continued today by the European
Parliament. In doing so the Brit Jonathan Hill must face the questions of the MPs
for the second time. Additonal candidates are the Finn Jyrki Katainen and the Dutch
Frans Timmermanns. The EU Parliament must approve the appointment of the
candidates. During the hearing on Monday the Hungarian Tibor Navracisics could
not convince them. The MPs dejected him a potential culture minister. The Slovenian
Alenka Bratusek was cross examined. She had to defend herself against
corruption allegations in connection with her nomination.

Lokführergewerkschaft GDL hat ihre Mitglieder zu einem bundesweiten Streik aufgerufen.
Von 21 Uhr bis 6 Uhr sollen sowohl im Fernverkehr als auch auf regionaler Ebene
alle Züge still stehen. Vom Streik betroffen sind auch Güterzüge. Hintergrund
der Arbeitsniederlegung ist ein Tarifstreit mit der Deutschen Bahn. Die GDL fordert
fünf Prozent mehr Geld und eine um zwei Stunden verkürzte Wochenarbeitszeit.
Die Verhandlungen scheiterten bislang daran, dass die Gewerkschaft ihre
Forderungen nicht nur für Lokführer sondern auch für das übrige Zugpersonal
stellt. Die Bahn lehnt das ab. Sie hatte den Lokführern zwei Prozent mehr Geld
angeboten.

ones as well as regional will remain stationary. Goods trains are also affected
by the strike. The background to the strike is a rate dispute with German
Railway. GDL demands a 5% pay increase and a two hour shorter standard working
week. The negotiations broke down so far in that the union appeals not only for
train drivers but also the rest of the train crew. The Railway opposes this.
They had offered the train drivers a 2% pay increase.
Over these days of remembrance, many of us will have taken the opportunity to mark the sacrifice of our war dead and injured in two world wars and a succession of conflicts since.
We remember thoughtfully and sombrely, because so many young lives were lost. They are known as ‘our glorious dead’, but, perhaps more appropriately, they are our tragic dead too.
Conflict is often what happens when politics fails. Even the Second World War, which most historians now agree was unavoidable, took place after British politicians tried every diplomatic route to avoid war, but found them all blocked. The mistake, by Neville Chamberlain and others, was not to challenge Hitler early enough and to allow the conditions for the conflagration which followed.
The island of Ireland, north and south, made considerable sacrifices during both world wars. Tens of thousands of young men from this island died in France, Belgium and elsewhere during the First World War. They included members of the 36 (Ulster) Division, as well as the 10 and 16 (Irish) Divisions.
During the Second World War, death and destruction came to Northern Ireland itself, with Belfast bearing the brunt of attacks by German bombers.
We remember too soldiers from Northern Ireland killed in more recent conflicts, like Captain David Patton from Coleraine and Corporal Channing Day from Hillsborough, both of whom died in Afghanistan. We also remember over 1,000 servicemen and women, including police, killed during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
The season of remembrance is a timely reminder of how important it is to work tirelessly to avoid conflict, wherever possible. It also offers lessons when it comes to facing up to mistakes which happened in the past.
Germany is a great example of a society which has confronted its demons successfully and admitted how extreme ideology fed murder and violence. It has commemorated the victims of Nazism in a sincere, humble and appropriate manner.
The outcome is that Germany is a successful, prosperous country, which has learned from its violent past. If only Northern Ireland could follow this example even to a limited extent, confronting dark events from a much different, less extensive conflict, our community would be in a better place to move on.
Remembrance Day is enormously important and, in Northern Ireland, being reminded of the horrors of war should reinvigorate efforts to build a shared and stable society

Seit wir mit dieser Kolumne begonnen haben, haben wir uns mit einer ganzen Reihe von Fällen auseinandergesetzt, in denen Polizisten im Dienst offensichtlich Mist gebaut haben. Since we began with this column, we have dealt with a whole series of cases, in which police officers have apparently screwed things up on duty. Sometimes even so badly that people were seriously injured, humiliated and even killed. It is thus important to document these cases. Not to pick on police officers, but rather because the rule of law depends on citizens being able to trust the force, onto whom they assign a power monopoly.

Der Strafrechtsprofessor Tobias Singelnstein hat herausgefunden, dass es bei diesen Anzeigen nur in 3 Prozent der Fällen zur Anklage kommt—das heißt, dass 97 Prozent der Verfahren eingestellt werden.

Auch Landwirtschaftsminister Christian Schmidt (CSU) sieht die Bundesregierung in der Pflicht: "Die Frage der deutschen Verantwortung in der Welt ist keine abstrakte Diskussion mehr." Im Extremfall sollten auch Schutzausrüstung, Defensiv- und Abwehrwaffen geliefert werden, zum Beispiel leicht bedienbares Material wie die Panzerabwehrrakete "Milan". Schmidt sagte: "Sich zurücklehnen und hinterher die Toten zählen - das ist keine Option."

And if you don't get on well with someone, then simply avoid them and say to yourself: Hey, they do their thing, I do my thing and we are all cool with that.

Sophia: Leute, die keinen Respekt vor sich selbst haben. Sophia: People who have respect for themselves.
Josa: Typen, die sich stärker fühlen als andere. Josa: Guys who feel stronger than others.
Carolin: Habt ihr selbst schon Mobbing erlebt? Carolin: Have you yourselves experienced bullying already?
Vincent: Es werden immer Menschen mit Schwachstellen diskriminiert. Zum Beispiel, wenn sie Segelohren haben. Vincent: People with weak points are always discriminated against. For example, if you have sticky-out ears.
Sophia: Auch Klassenlehrer mobben. Ich selbst wurde von einer Klassenlehrerin gemobbt und habe deshalb sogar die Schule geschwänzt. Sophia: Form teachers also bully. I was bullied by a form teacher myself and as a result have even skipped school.
Carlo: In der Grundschule wurde ein Junge ständig geschubst. Er war kleiner als die anderen. Die Größeren haben das Mobbingkreis genannt. Carlo: In primary school a boy was constantly shoved. He was smaller than the others. The older ones named the circle of bullies.
Hannah: Weggucken ist halt einfacher. Hier hat sich die Hofaufsicht auch schon weggestellt. Hannah: Looking away is just easier. Here supervision has already been taken away.
Naomi: Leute aus der Parallelklasse haben mich mit Schnee eingerieben. Sie meinten, ich sei kein richtiges Mädchen. Ich stand da drüber und fand die Beleidigungen eher peinlich. Aber mein Freund wurde sogar verprügelt. Naomi: People from the forms have hit me with snow. They reckon that I'm not a proper girl. I endured it and found the humiliation rather embarrassing. But even my friend got hit.
Carolin: Wie sollte man darauf reagieren? Carolin: How should one react to it?
Paul: Sich Eltern oder Lehrern anvertrauen. Die können was tun. Paul: Confide in a parent or a teacher, who can do something.
Sasha: Die Mobber ignorieren. Sasha: Ignore the bullies.
Daniel: Das ist in Extremfällen schwierig. Aber drüberstehen ist gut, wenn's geht. Daniel: That is hard in extreme cases. But staying above such things is good when it is done.
Adam: Man sollte sich Freunde suchen - eine Gruppe sein. Adam: You should find yourself friends - be a group.
Daniel: Genau richtig, haltet da zusammen! Sucht euch Verbündete oder sprecht mit Eltern und Lehrern darüber. Mobbing gibt es heute auch im Social Web. Da muss man aufpassen. Denn was dort geschrieben wird, können plötzlich Zigtausende lesen. Das ist nicht mehr so wie früher, wenn jemand einen gemeinen Spruch an die Schultoilette geschrieben hat. Und alles, was dort geschrieben wird, kriegt man aus dem Netz nicht mehr raus. Es gibt sogar Jugendliche, die sich deswegen das Leben genommen haben. Daniel: Spot-on, stick together! Find an ally or speak with a teacher or parent about it. Today there is also bullying on the social-web. There one have to be careful. As what is written there can suddenly be read by thousands. It is not like before, wenn someone wrote a cowardly scrawl on the school toilets. And people cannot take anything away of what is written there. There are even young people, who have taken their lives because of it.
Laura: Da kommt es auf die Eltern an. Sie sollten ihre Kinder stärker kontrollieren. Heutzutage wird den Kindern das zu sehr freie Hand gelassen. Laura: Given that, it depends on the parents. They should control their children more keenly. Nowadays children are left to their devices.
Naomi: Ich will eben wissen, was auf Facebook über mich geschrieben wird. Das Problem ist halt, dass die meisten User sich bei Facebook stärker fühlen als außerhalb des Internets. Naomi: I want to know exactly was is written about me on Facebook. The problem is just that most users feel more confident on Facebook than off of the interest.
Sophie: Man sollte da aber auch keinen riesigen Hype draus machen, was über einen geschrieben wird. Zum Beispiel. Man ist selber schuld, wenn man Warnungen nicht ernst nimmt. Und sollte da nicht den Eltern die Schuld geben.
Sophie: But also you shouldn't make a big hype out of what is written over Facebook. For example you are yourself to blame if you don't take the warning seriously. And shouldn't give the parents the blame.
Carolin: Gerade die Schule hat die Verantwortung, über Mobbing und Cyber-Mobbing aufzuklären. Vor allem dort, wo Eltern überfordert sind. Das Beste wäre wohl, wenn Experten von außerhalb an die Schulen kommen und über das Social Web aufklären würden. Just the school has the responsibility to explain bullying and cyber-bullying. Especially there where parents are swamped. It would be best, if experts come from outside the school and would inform people about social media.

Because in the coming years more and more people will combine individual and public with each other, we are supporting the build of parking spaces for the connection of the car or motor bike to public transport at train stations.
Bis heute haben wir mit unseren Partnern viele Herausforderungen bestens gemeistert -- darunter jährlich die Wiesn, ein Massen-Event mit sechs Millionen Besuchern in zwei Wochen. Dies meistern vor allem unsere beiden wichtigsten Verkehrsunternehmen im Verbund: Die Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft MVG und die S-Bahn München. München und seine Region wird weiter wachsen. Die europäische Metropolregion München nimmt mehr und mehr Gestalt an. Again I have another 'unsere Umwelt' debate next week to prepare for. This week my debate will centre on the topic of our traffic problems; primarily on whether building new roads is the solution to all our problems or whether other solutions are more suitable. Here are my arguments.
