Daphne Guinness ist ein alter Hase im Fashion-Biz. Die millionenschwere Biererbin (ja, genau) kann man getrost als Über-Muse bezeichnen, war und ist sie doch beste Kundin und Freundin des verstorbenen Designers Alexander McQueen, ein williges Versuchskaninchen zahlreicher Avantgardisten wie Gareth Pugh oder Iris Van Herpen und Partner-in-Crime von Fotograf Nick Knight. Offenkundig reicht es Daphne aber nicht, ihre sprichwörtlich anzüglichen Fantasien auf extravaganten Events und in Fashion-Clips auszuleben. Nach einer ziemlich abgefahrenen Laufbahn als Model, Performance-Künstlerin und Designerin hat die 46-jährige Irin nun die Musik für sich entdeckt – und die erste Single samt Video aus ihrem Debütalbum (ist für Mitte September angekündigt) veröffentlicht.

Daphne Guiness is an old hand in the fashion business. The multi-million dollar 'bier-heiress' (yes, exactly) can be confidently described as a muse, she was and is still the best customer and friends of the late designer Alexander McQueen, a willing guinea-pig to many avant garde designers like Gareth Pugh or Iris Van Herpen, partner-in-crime of photographer Nick Knight. It is apparently not enough for Daphne, to live out her proverbially insinuating fantasies at extravagant events and in fashion-clips . After a rather way-out career as a model, performance artist and designer, the 46-year old Irish woman has now discovered music for herself- and has released the first single together with a video from her debut album (to be available by mid-September). 

Eigentlich braucht man über dieses erste Machwerk keine weiteren Worte verlieren, stürzt sich Guinness damit doch wie eine intergalaktische Harpyie auf die Pop-Krone Lady Gagas. Die von Tony Visconti produzierten Klänge erinnern nicht ohne Grund an seinen früheren Schützling David Bowie: Visuell orientiert sich der von David LaChapelle durchkomponierte Clip am unerträglich-unsäglichen Schundfilm Flash Gordon von 1980 – ein hyperschwuler Traum also.

You don't actually need to lose any further words over this first sorry effort, Guinness pounces on Lady Gaga's pop-crown but like an intergalactic Harpy. The sounds produced by Tony Visconti are evocative of his earlier protégé David Bowie, not without reason, as the film composed by David LaChapelle is based on the unbearable-inexpressibly shoddy film Flash Gordon from 1980 - so an extremely camp dream.

Hier verschmelzen Mode, Musik und Kunst zu einer herrlichen Kitschorgie, zur Bühne für das Modealien Daphne Guinness und ihr beeindruckendes Archiv aus Haute Couture. Die Roben und wohl auch die eingängige, keinesfalls laienhafte Musik retten das Ding aus dem All letztlich vor der Trash-Falle. Dazu nämlich, das bewies erst kürzlich Brooke Candy mit "Opulence", braucht es eine Menge Stil – und wer hat, der kann. In diesem Sinne heben wir einen auf Daphnes Sangeskunst und freuen uns auf das anstehende Album. Cheers!

Here fashion, music and art fuses into a glorious cheesefest, into a stage for Daphne Guinness and her impressive archive of Haute Couture. The dresses and probably the, by no means amateurish, music rescue the it from space, if not the trash trap. The task, as proved by Brooke Candy recently with 'Opulance', needs a lot of style - who has it, can. In this sense, we rise to Daphne's singing talents and look forward to the upcoming album. Von Zeit zu Zeit sehnen wir uns in der Mode nach Veränderung. Manchmal muss die Eleganz der Gemütlichkeit weichen. Enge Röcken machen Platz für weite Hosen und Clutches müssen verschwinden, wenn Umhängetaschen zum Tragen kommen.

From time to time in fashion we crave change. Sometimes the elegance of privacy must give way. Tight skirts make room from for wide trousers, and clutches must disappear, when shoulder bags come to fruition.

Und seit einigen Saisons sind es immer seltener High Heels, die die weiblichen Füße zur Schau stellen. Sneakers kündigten eine neue Sportlichkeit an, die nur noch vom laufenden Trend getoppt werden konnte: dem neuen Komfort.

For some seasons now, it is ever rarer high heels, that female feet flaunt. Sneakers herald a new sporty drive, which could only be topped by the current trend: the new comfort.

Phoebe Philos „Furkenstocks“, die sie für Céline in ihrer S/S 2013 Kollektion präsentierte, markierten den Start. Zwei Saisons später zogen Labels wie Givenchy oder Helmut Lang nach. Doch seinen Ursprung hat die bequeme Pantolette im nördlichen Rheinland-Pfalz, um 1774, als das Unternehmen Birkenstock seinen Anfang fand.

Phoebe Philo's "Furkenstocks", which she showcased for Céline in her S/S 2013 collection, marked the beginning.  Two seasons later it has moved to labels like Givenchy or Helmut Lang. Yet the comfortable mules had its origins in North Rhineland-Pfalz, around 1774, when the company Birkenstock found its beginning.

Lange Zeit war die Firma ein kleines, unscheinbares Familienunternehmen, doch in den 70ern und 80ern wurden die anatomisch angepassten Schuhe bei Ärzten und bei Pflegepersonal beliebt, da das ausgeformte Fußbett das lange Stehen erleichtert. 

For a long time the firm was a small, unimpressive family business, yet in the 70s and 80s the anatomically adapted shoes were loved by doctors and nurses, as the moulded insole eases long standing. 

In diesem Sommer kommt der Komfort vom Krankenhaus über den Laufsteg an die Füße. Was vor ein Paar Jahren kaum vorstellbar war, ist heute nicht wegzudenken. Die Marke Birkenstock hat sich durchgesetzt, sich durch neue Designs und Farben einer anderen Zielgruppe angepasst. Vor allem aber ist es der völlig neue Kontext, in dem sich der Schuh präsentiert und so im kulturellen Verständnis als Trend angenommen  wird.

In this summer the comfort for your feet comes from the hospital over the catwalk. What was a few years ago scarcely imaginable, is today not out of the question. The brand Birkenstock has become accepted, adapting itself for a different target-group through new designs and colors. Primarily however it is the completely new context, in which the shoe has been introduced and is taken in the cultural understanding as a trend. 

Der Kult führte zu unzähligen Kopien von HighStreet-Ketten wie Zara und Co und schließlich auch zum Revival der Adilette. Sogar das Touri-Klischee der Socken in Sandalen könnte laut einigen Editorials und Trendprognosen bald seine Renaissance erleben.

The cult leads to countless copies from high-street chains like Zara and Co and finally also to the revival of the adilette (pool slider). Even the tourist cliché of socks and sandals could soon experience its renaissance, according to come editorials and trend forecasts. 

Was vor einigen Saisons noch unvorstellbar schien, ist heute vertraut. Weil der Geschmack sich ändert und Mode eben nicht das bleibt, was sie letztes Jahr noch war. Wo Füße sich schonen und nicht quälen wollen und Sexyness dem Komfort weichen muss, wo Birkenstocks zu Designerkleiden und Slides am Catwalk statt am Pool getragen werden. Weil aus Zeitgeist auch immer ein Zeitstil folgt. So lange, bis auch die Pantolette verschwindet, um wieder in der Masse der gemeinen Kleidung unterzugehen. Nur um Platz zu machen für High Heels, für Loafers, für Ballerinas oder Wedges. Für eine neue Mode und einen neuen Zeitstil.

What seemed a few seasons ago still unimaginable, is today familiar. Because the taste changes and fashion just doesn't stay what it was last year. Where feet want to rest and not be in pain, and sexiness must give way to comfort, where Birkenstocks are worn with designer clothes and slides on the catwalk instead of the pool. Because Zeitgeist also always follows style of the time.  Until the mule disappears, again to be lost in the mass of ordinary clothes. Only to make room for high heels, for loafers, for ballerinas or wedges. For a new fashion and a new style of the moment. 

Eco-Warrior

Ein idyllisches Fleckchen Erde wird in den ersten Sekunden des neuen, zweiminütigen Kurzfilms von Replay gezeigt. Regen tropft in Slowmotion von den Blättern und Erinnerungen an den Geruch von nassem Waldboden werden wach.

An idyllic spot is shown the first seconds of the new two-minute short film from Replay. Rains drips in slow motion from the leafs and memories of the smell of the damp forest floor are awoken.

Die Protagonisten, nur mit Hosen bekleidet und mit Schriftzügen auf den nackten Oberkörper bemalt, jagen durch das Dickicht und demonstrieren uns mit vollem Körpereinsatz, was es heißt, für einen guten Zweck einzustehen. Replay hat sich bewusst für Aleksandra Orbeck-Nilssen und Enok Groven entschieden – beide norwegische Landsmänner – die auch im echten Leben für unsere Umwelt kämpfen. Model und Schauspielerin Aleksandra hat mit Nanofasa eine Stiftung ins Leben gerufen, die sich für die namibische Bevölkerung und deren Erhaltung von Natur und Kultur einsetzt. Das männliche Pendant Enok, Gründer von FashionAgainstClimateChange, arbeitet ökologische Themen auf und nimmt vor allem die Modeindustrie und ihre Herstellungsprozesse unter die Lupe.

The protagonists, only clad in jeans and with writing painted on their naked chests, chasing through the undergrowth and demonstrating to us with full use of body, what it means to stand up for a good cause.  Replay deliberately chose Aleksandra Orbeck-Nilssen and Enok Groven- both Norwegian- who also fight in real life for our environment. Model and actress Aleksandra has created a foundation with Nanofasa, which campaigns for Namibian population and conservation of their nature and culture. Male counterpart Enok, founder of FashionAgainstClimateChange, works on ecological matters and examines, above all, the fashion industry and their manufacturing processes.

Wer wenn nicht diese beiden Eco-Warrior eignen sich hervorragend als Repräsentanten für die neue Replay Laserblast L.I.F.E Kollektion. Die neuen Jeansmodelle namens Waitom und Anbass sowie Skinny Luz und Pilar, werden mit fein gemahlenen Pigmenten mineralischen Ursprungs gefärbt. Darauf folgt eine Bearbeitung mit Laserstrahlen und eine schonenende Stone-Wash-Behandlung bei niedrigen Temperaturen. Der letzte Schliff wird den Jeans dann bei einer weiteren Waschung mit braunen, grauen und ockerfarbenen Pigmenten verliehen.

Who, if not these two Eco-Warriors, would be superbly suitable as representatives for the new Replay Laserblast L.I.F.E collection. The new models of jeans called Waitom and Anbass as well as Skinny Luz and Pilar, are coloured with fine powdered pigments of mineral origin. Followed by a process with laser-beams and a mild Stone-Wash treatment at low temperatures. The last touch; the jeans are coloured with a further wash with browns, greys and ocher coloured pigments.

Bonnie Strange: Deutsche Model

Mit ihrem eigenen Modelabel „The Shop“ vermarktet Bonnie Strange ihren persönlichen Modestil für ein breites Publikum. Dafür hatte sie extra in Berlin am Prenzlauer Berg einen Concept Store eröffnet und sammelte auf Shoppingtouren durch die ganze Welt die passenden Accessoires und Kleidungsstücke. Neben den knallbunten Kreationen ist in dem Shop außerdem ein Tattoo-Studio eingerichtet, in dem Tattoo-Künstlerin Laura Cherrygrove die Nadel schwingt.

With her own fashion label, "The Shop", Bonnie Strange marks out her personal fashion style for a wide audience. For it she has specially opened a concept store in Berlin on Prenzlauer Berg and collected suitable accessories and clothing pieces on shopping trips around the world. Next to the punchy, colorful creations, a tattoo-studio is also established, in which tattoo artist Laura Cherrygrove swings the needle.

Bonnie Strange ist eigentlich als die Freundin von Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht bekannt geworden. Trotzdem ist ihr Steckbrief randvoll mit eigenen Projekten und sie muss sich nicht auf den Lorbeeren ihres berühmten Ex-Partners ausruhen. So hat sie mit der Modelband „RIO Girls“ - zusammen mit „Germany's Next Topmodel“-Kandidatin Marie Nasemann und Modelfreundin Jackie Hide - eine Chartplatzierung in Angriff genommen. Nach zwei Singles löste sich die Band allerdings wieder auf. Ein Grund zur Trauer war das eher nicht, denn das Plus an Aufmerksamkeit nutzte Bonnie Strange und konnte mehr Model- und Fotografen-Jobs den je verbuchen.

Bonnie Strange actually became famous as the girlfriend of Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht. However she is brimful with projects and she doesn't have to rest on the laurels of her famous ex-boyfriend. Thus she has tackled a chart position with the model band "RIO Girls" together with Germany's Next Top-model candidate Marie Nasemann and model friend Jackie Hide. After two singles, the band broke up however. It was not reason for mourning, because the extra attention meant that Bonnie Strange and more models could be recorded than ever before. 

Das It-Girl hatte es sogar schon US-Blogger Parerez Hilton angetan: Der war völlig hingerissen von der Stil-Mischung ihrer Outfits. Promi-Mutter Natascha Ochsenknecht dagegen, war nicht wirklich angetan von der ehemaligen Verlobten ihres Sohnes. Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht hielt trotzdem lange zu seiner Bonnie. Im Sommer 2012 trennte sich das Paar jedoch voneinander. Kurze Zeit später kam sie mit Jacob Haupt zusammen. Im April 2013 gibt das Paar ihre Verlobung bekannt.

Celeb-mother Natascha Ochsenknecht, in contrast, was not really taken by the former engagement of her son. Wilson Gonzalez Ochsenknecht, nevertheless, held long to his Bonnie. In the summer of 2012, however, the pair separated from one another. A short time later she got together with Jacob Haupt. In the April the pair made their engagement known.

Jil Sander

Jil Sander (1943-) "Königin des Wenigen"

Hailed as the 'Queen of Less', Sander has been riding the fashion waves since the 60s when she founded the Jil Sander fashion house. Minimalist and edgy her pieces gained notoriety in the 80s and 90s, in her peak she had boutiques in both London's Browns and New York's Park Avenue. Since the 1999 agreement with Prada in which Prada took a 75% share in the brand, Sander's allegiance to the brand has waned. In 2009, she collaborated with the Japanese brand Uniqlo creating a line called +J, it run successfully for 3 years however 2011 saw the last collection of the line.

Es ist also kein Fashion-Mythos: Jogginghosen gehen heute auch bei Chanel.

Hören Sie den Podcast. Unter den Modeexperten galt sie lange Zeit als verpönt und unsexy: die Jogginhose. Doch damit ist jetzt Schluss. Der Schlabberlook hat es auf die Edel-Laufstege der Modemetropolen geschafft und plötzlich lieben Designer den Schlabberlook. DRadio-Wissen-Reporterin Sarah Tschernigow hat die Probe aufs Exempel gemacht und ist mit einer billigen Jogginghose zu Chanel gegangen.

According to fashion experts, they are frowned upon and  considered unsexy: Jogging pants. But not anymore. The 'frumpy look' has succeeded in making it to the classy catwalks of fashion capitals and suddenly designers love the baggy look. Sarah Tschernigow, a DRadio-Wissen reporter, has put this to the test, going to Chanel dressed in cheap jogging pants.

Wer eigentlich zieht Jogginhosen an? Mögliche Antworten bisher waren Couchpotatos, Bodybuilder oder Künstler wie der Rapper MC Hammer. Von dieser Vorstellung kann man sich heute getrost verabschieden. Der Schlabberlook hat Einzug gehalten bis in die höchsten Etagen der Modewelt. Selbst ein Karl Lagerfeld musste sich eines Besseren belehren lassen:

Who actually wears jogging pants? Possible answers to date have been couch potatoes, body builders or artists like Rapper MC Hammer. We can now confidently bid farewell to this conception. The baggy-look has gained entry to the highest echelons of the fashion world. Even Karl Lagerfield has had to be taught better.

Diese Aussage dürfte ihm noch öfter vorgehalten werden, schließlich schickte der Modedesigner im Fühjahr Supermodel Cara Delevigne in Paris auf den Chanel-Laufsteg - mit einer Jogginghose, rosa und durchlöchert. Die Schlabberhose bekam ein neues Image. Nur das Wort Jogginghose nehmen Labels wie Chanel dann doch nicht so gerne in den Mund. Auf Anfrage unserer Reporterin Sarah Tschernigow zur Laufstegvorführung in Paris antwortete das Unternehmen per Mail:

Jogging pants got a new image. Only the word jogging pants is not liked to be uttered by labels like Chanel.

Selten wurde eine zerschnittene Jogginghose mit schöneren Worten beschrieben. Dennoch hat Chanel mit der fluffigen Hose nicht das Rad neu erfunden, denn schon in vergangenen Saisons haben Designer die Jogginghose wiederentdeckt.

Never have ripped jogging pants been described such with nice words!  However Chanel have not invented the wheel with these fluffy pants, in past seasons designers have rediscovered jogging pants.

Down Dressing schindet Eindruck

Beachtet man ein paar Dinge, dann macht die Jogginghose richtig was her und ist dazu noch ein echtes Statement. Forscher der Harvard Business School meinen sogar, dass ein solches Down-Dressing wie sie es nennen, richtig Eindruck schinden kann. Laut ihrer Studie wurde Menschen, die mit Jogginghose in eine teure Boutique gingen, ein höherer gesellschaftlicher Status zugeschrieben, als den klassischen Schicki-Micki-Kunden - denn sie strahlen aus: Ich habe es nicht nötig!

Consider a few things; what makes jogging pants a good statement. (so schwierig zu übersetzen) Researchers of Harvard  Business School even think, that such a Down-Dressing, as they call it, can really make an impression. According to their study a higher social status was attributed to people who went to expensive boutiques clad in jogging pants, than the classic jet-setter customers, because they exude the message; 'I don't need it!'

Bekleidet mit einer hässlichen, grauen, fusseligen 20-Euro-Jogginhose von H&M hat sich unsere Reporterin Sarah Tschernigow in eine Chanel-Boutique gewagt und dazu ein passendes Designer-Teil verlangt. Die Überraschung ist groß: "Ich werde behandelt wie eine Königin", staunt sie über die freundliche und zuvorkommende Art der Verkäuferin. Anprobiert werden ein 3000 Euro teurer Tweed-Mantel, 500-Euro-Sneaker und eine 1200-Euro-Tasche. Dazu gibt es natürlich auch ein Glas Champagner und schöne Komplimente für den coolen Look von anderen Kundinnen. Es ist also kein Fashion-Mythos: Jogginghosen gehen heute auch bei Chanel.

Clad in a pair of horrible, grey, fuzzy 20 euro jogging pants from H&M, our reporter Sarah Tschernigow ventured into a Chanel-boutique and demanded a suitable designer piece. The big surprise: 'I was handled like a queen', she was stunned over the friendly and courteous manner of the shop assistant.  A 3000 euro expensive tweed coat, 500 euro sneakers and 1200 euro handbag was tried on. In addition there was of course a glass of champagne and nice compliments for the cool look from the other customers. It is no fashion myth: Jogging pants are today also going at Chanel!
