Paris-Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has, with an evening gala in the south of France, raised more than 25 million dollars (around 19 million euros) for his environmental foundation. 500 guests from the world of showbiz and wealthy business men attended an action at a vineyard in the area of Jetset-Orts Saint-Tropez. U2 lead- singer Bono sang a version of 'Stand by me' with Julian Lennon, son of the Beatles legend John Lennon, auctioning off his guitar for a million dollars afterwards.

On offer to auction was also DiCaprio's Harley-Davidson with autographs from director legend Martin Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro. The guests paid between 7500 and 130.000 dollars entrance fee for the exclusive party. The US-Russian billionaire Len Blavatnik bid at auction six million dollars for a sculpture by the well known British artist Damian Hirst. The south African mining tycoon Patrice Motsepe paid a million dollars for a Picasso painting. For two roles in a future DiCaprio film, 2.4 million dollars was accrued altogether.
