Paris - Hollywood-Star Leonardo DiCaprio hat bei einem Gala-Abend in Südfrankreich mehr als 25 Millionen Dollar (etwa 19 Millionen Euro) für seine Umweltschutzstiftung eingesammelt. 500 Gäste aus der Welt des Showbiz und wohlbetuchte Geschäftsmänner wohnten auf einem Weingut nahe des Jetset-Orts Saint-Tropez unter anderem einer Auktion bei. U2-Bandchef Bono sang gemeinsam mit Julian Lennon, Sohn von Beatles-Legende John Lennon, eine Version von "Stand By Me" und versteigerte anschließend für eine Million Dollar seine Gitarre.

Paris-Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has, with an evening gala in the south of France, raised more than 25 million dollars (around 19 million euros) for his environmental foundation. 500 guests from the world of showbiz and wealthy business men attended an action at a vineyard in the area of Jetset-Orts Saint-Tropez. U2 lead- singer Bono sang a version of 'Stand by me' with Julian Lennon, son of the Beatles legend John Lennon, auctioning off his guitar for a million dollars afterwards.

Zur Versteigerung angeboten wurde auch eine Harley-Davidson DiCaprios mit Autogrammen von Regie-Legende Martin Scorsese und Schauspielstar Robert De Niro. Die Gäste hatten für die exklusive Feier zwischen 7500 und 130.000 Dollar Eintritt gezahlt. Der US-russische Milliardär Len Blavatnik ersteigerte für sechs Millionen Dollar eine Skulptur des bekannten britischen Künstlers Damien Hirst. Der südafrikanische Bergbau-Tycoon Patrice Motsepe zahlte eine Million Dollar für ein Picasso-Gemälde. Für zwei Rollen in einem künftigen DiCaprio-Film kamen insgesamt 2,4 Millionen Dollar zusammen.

On offer to auction was also DiCaprio's Harley-Davidson with autographs from director legend Martin Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro. The guests paid between 7500 and 130.000 dollars entrance fee for the exclusive party. The US-Russian billionaire Len Blavatnik bid at auction six million dollars for a sculpture by the well known British artist Damian Hirst. The south African mining tycoon Patrice Motsepe paid a million dollars for a Picasso painting. For two roles in a future DiCaprio film, 2.4 million dollars was accrued altogether.

DiCaprio warnte bei dem Gala-Abend vor dem Aussterben von Tier- und Pflanzenarten. "Seit der Zeit der Dinosaurier sind noch nie so viele Pflanzen- und Tierarten verschwunden wie heute", sagte er nach Angaben seiner Stiftung. "Wir müssen uns anstrengen, um die Artenvielfalt zu bewahren."

At the gala evening DiCaprio warned against the extinction of types of plants and animals. "Since the times of the dinosaurs never have so many types of animals and plants disappeared like today", he said, according to his foundation. "We must work hard,in order to conserve diversity."
